About Us
Kiwanis Club and Foundation of Crofton
Who we are
Chartered in May of 1976, the Kiwanis Club of Crofton is the largest
Kiwanis Club in
Anne
Arundel
County,
with over 60 active members. Members are a "Who's Who" of
Crofton, with politicians, professionals, business owners, retired
government executives and more. How about you?
What we do
Community service is the main objective of Kiwanis, and Crofton
Kiwanis is deeply involved in Crofton affairs. Several times a year
the club sponsors a
Blood Drive in conjunction with the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
The annual Kiwanis Halloween parade for children has been a
tradition for over 30 years. Monthly Bingo and Birthday parties at
Crofton Convalescent and
Rehabilitation
Center
are a highlight for the residents. We have also provided significant
support to severely wounded veterans with an ongoing special
project. Every April,
the club participates in the Rebuilding Together home renovation
project. Monthly
dinners and other assistance are provided at Sarah’s House, a local
homeless shelter. In 2007
and2008 we funded their children's summer activity program.
During the holidays, Crofton
Kiwanians ring the bell for the Salvation Army, provide meals
and gifts for several families, and provide holiday gifts through
the Christmas Angel program.
Throughout the year, the club maintains the
Crofton Parkway
flags. Beyond the local
community, we support
Johns
Hopkins
Hospital
Children's
Pediatric
Trauma
Center,
the Kiwanis International Young Children Priority One projects, and
a number of other charitable organizations. Crofton
Kiwanis has, in 2007 and 2008 been the primary financial source for
Crofton Caring Council funding.
Each year our club sponsors a golf
tournament in May, the annual Crofton 10K race in June, and
participates in the Crofton Craft Fairs, selling commemorative
ornaments. The club’s
largest fundraiser is its annual Charity Auction, held in November.
These events are not only fundraisers, but also serve as highly
popular community activities.
Sponsored Youth support is given to a K-Kids Club at
Crofton
Woods
Elementary School,
a Builders Club at
Crofton
Middle School,
and Key Clubs at Arundel and
Archbishop
Spalding
High Schools.
These clubs conduct their own service projects and work on joint
projects with Kiwanis throughout the year.
